A Carry-On Packing Checklist for Long-Haul Flights

On a long-haul flight, the difference between misery and comfort usually fits in a small pouch under the seat in front of you. Pack these and stow the rest.

Keep within reach

  • Refillable water bottle (empty through security)

  • Noise-cancelling headphones and a charged power bank

  • Compression socks and a light layer for the cabin chill

  • Lip balm, moisturiser and eye drops for dry cabin air

  • All medication, travel documents and a spare mask

Overhead bin is fine for

  • Change of clothes

  • Toiletry bag over 100ml

  • Books and bulkier electronics

Set yourself up before takeoff: the goal is to never open the overhead bin until you land.
